Odd Little Tricks - MS Word
A keyboard shortcut for making custom tables, split screen trick for editing long documents, better "underlining" for forms.
Table Shortcut
Here's an odd hidden feature in Word. Create highly configurable single and multi row tables with a keyboard shortcut. Unlike the Create and Draw Table tools on the Table menu (or Toolbar Insert Table icon) this method allows cell to be as little as one character wide. Type the plus symbol (+) followed by one or more hyphens (-), followed by another plus sign. Repeat for as many columns as desired, then press Enter. Examples of four and two column tables are shown below.

Underlined Spaces
Underlined spaces are useful for forms or documents to indicate where the reader should enter information. For example: Name:_________________
With a normal underline, the underline disappears as soon as you type on it.
Name:__Bob Smith________
To make underlined spaces that you can type above, press an hold Ctrl + U + Shift and then press the spacebar. A little awkward, but with a little practice you'll get the hang of it.
Split Screen
If you're working on a long document and jumping back and forth between an upper section and a lower section, you might find this trick handy. Point, click and drag the tiny separator bar immediately above the arrow on the vertical scroll bar (on the right side of your window). Drag it halfway down and you have two separate views of the same document, each with their own scroll bars allowing you move around each section of the document independently. To revert to the normal, single pane view, slide the separator bar back to the top of the screen.
