We know from first hand experience that an awful lot of us are working hunched over 15” monitors that we figure still have some use left in them. Understandably, companies can’t just run out and buy the new stuff, just because it’s “new.” But can a bigger PC monitor improve worker productivity? Intuitively, we think it can and now there is at least one study making the news wires that confirms this and even puts a number on it. The “Productivity, Screens and Aspect Ratio,” study conducted by the University of Utah showed switching to wide screen monitors could result in productivity gains equivalent to 76 extra work days a year per worker. It’s worh noting that the study looked at workers running multiple applications simultaneously. And one additional caveat – the study was underwritten by NEC a manufacturer of monitors.

The last link above - the one to NEC's website - includes a savings calculator which purports to calculate the projected savings to be realized with a change from a current monitor size to a larger size or multiple monitor set up based on time spent working in multiple applications simultaneously.
